Aftermarket parts often consist of materials different from the originals fitted to your car. Their manufacturers do their best to produce affordable options that, at least on the surface, do the same job as the original.
But it isn’t that simple. Building an aftermarket component to the same rigid standards as the original part is almost impossible. Thus, aftermarket parts are rarely – if ever – as reliable.
VW designed your car to have the parts it came with. We trust Volkswagen, so we always head to the original source. Although these sometimes cost slightly more, we’re most confident of their ongoing reliability and durability. That’s why we only repair your VW with genuine VW parts.

The truth is that your warranty will only be voided if it’s clear that an aftermarket part directly affected the operation of the part in question. For example, say you replaced the oil pump, and then the engine overheated and seized. If it’s clear that this happened thanks to low oil pressure, the warranty will most likely be invalid. It wasn’t a manufacturer error. But if you fit an aftermarket exhaust and then find your windscreen wiper motor playing up, it shouldn’t affect your warranty claim.

Should you choose non-OEM aftermarket parts for your VW?

Never compromise on OEM components for anything in your drivetrain or safety systems. That includes everything from sensors and spark plugs to brakes and suspension.
Some people might look to aftermarket parts in some instances. While we don’t recommend it, individuals modifying their cars will be forced to use aftermarket components. And for anyone looking to save money, purchasing non-critical aftermarket components can save a few pounds upfront. (But beware of future complications arising from these parts that may force you to spend more down the line).
